Ford Expedition Launches 4th Generation with More Power & Tech

This fall, the 2018 Ford Expedition will make its way to Shelby. After ten long years, this full-size SUV is getting a full redesign that will launch it into its fourth generation, which means lots of new features to explore.

The most significant changes for many drivers interested in a full-size body-on-frame SUV are to performance. After all, if you weren't looking for truck-like towing and off-roading capability, you could find a more comfortable ride in a unibody SUV like the Explorer. Improvements to capability in the 2018 Expedition include:

  • 9,300-pound maximum tow rating
  • 300-pound lighter curb weight
  • Pro Trailer Backup Assist technology available
  • 10-speed automatic transmission
  • Greater horsepower and torque (details forthcoming)
  • More rigid frame

The new Expedition also sees improvements to in-cabin technology that will improve the ownership experience and help keep passengers placated, including new SYNC Connect, which turns the vehicle into a Wi-Fi hotspot on wheels and allows the driver to lock the doors or start up the engine from a smartphone app.
